Hardik Pandya’s Injury Casts Shadow on India’s ODI World Cup Campaign

October 20, 2023 10:14 pm

In a recent clash against Bangladesh at the ODI World Cup 2023, the Indian team faced a significant setback when their ace all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, suffered an ankle injury. Pandya twisted his left ankle, limiting his bowling contribution to just three deliveries before he had to leave the field.

The injury occurred in the ninth over of the game, forcing Pandya to limp off the field with the assistance of support staff. Virat Kohli stepped in to complete the remaining three balls of Pandya’s over. Although Pandya did return to the field, he refrained from bowling, and his services were not required during India’s chase. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement, revealing that Pandya would undergo scans. His availability for the upcoming games would depend on the results of these scans.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, Pandya’s scan reports are now being sent to a specialist doctor in Mumbai. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma downplayed the severity of the injury, stating that it wasn’t a major concern and that they would evaluate Pandya’s condition in the coming days.

“He pulled up a bit sore; nothing really major to worry about. We’ll see how he feels tomorrow morning and then plan how to go forward,” Rohit said.

Despite Pandya’s injury, the Indian team put up a commendable performance on the field. In the first innings, Bangladesh got off to a decent start with Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das scoring 51 and 66 runs, respectively. Mushfiqur Rahim added 38 runs, while Mahmudullah contributed 46 runs to set a target of 256 runs.

Chasing this total, the Indian team showcased their batting prowess. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored 48 and 53 runs, respectively. However, the highlight of the innings was Virat Kohli’s exceptional performance, where he notched up his 48th ODI century, amassing 103 runs. Thanks to Kohli’s stellar display, India clinched a convincing seven-wicket victory, maintaining their winning streak in the tournament. Get free cricket betting tips only on Nextbet Sports.
