Young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal has captured the cricketing world’s attention with his outstanding debut performance against West Indies, where he showcased his immense talent by smashing a magnificent 171 runs, leading India to a comfortable victory. Following his impressive debut, Jaiswal’s rising stature in the cricketing world has been further solidified with his inclusion in India’s Asian Games squad.

According to renowned commentator Aakash Chopra, Jaiswal’s selection in the Asian Games squad indicates that he is not currently in contention for the ODI format, as per the selectors’ plans. However, Chopra firmly believes that Jaiswal’s exceptional batting prowess will soon make him an all-format player. The Asian Games, scheduled to take place in Hangzhou, China, in September-October this year, will feature a 15-member Indian squad. It is worth noting that players participating in the Asian Games are usually excluded from major events like the World Cup due to scheduling conflicts.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra shared his insights on the batters chosen for the Asian Games squad, specifically focusing on Jaiswal’s situation.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal – it’s an interesting situation. The guy scored a century on his Test debut, but he hasn’t been included in the ODI list. So, he finds himself in the Asian Games squad. He’s not currently in the race for ODIs, whether it’s the Asia Cup or the World Cup. However, I won’t be surprised if he starts pushing for selection in all formats over the next eight to ten months.”

Chopra further justified the inclusion of Rahul Tripathi in the squad, despite his lackluster performance in the previous IPL season, by highlighting Tripathi’s past international appearances. He also pointed out Ruturaj Gaikwad’s appointment as captain in the absence of some senior players.

Expressing his satisfaction, Chopra welcomed Rinku Singh’s inclusion in the Asian Games squad, as there had been discussions surrounding his absence from the team. He also praised Shivam Dube’s recall, acknowledging Dube’s impressive IPL performances and previous experience representing India.

Chopra concluded by mentioning the possibility of Vijay Shankar being selected as a seam-bowling all-rounder, given his notable performances in the IPL. Additionally, he expressed his support for Jitesh Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh as the chosen wicketkeeper-batsmen.

As Jaiswal’s star continues to rise and with the promising talent assembled for the Asian Games squad, Indian cricket fans eagerly anticipate witnessing some thrilling performances on the international stage. Get the latest updates from the world of cricket only on Nextbet Sports.
